What began as a personal passion eventually grew into a professional music career, taking him from casual performances to stages, patios, restaurants, bars and private events throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and beyond.
Raul’s path to performing professionally was not a straight line. Before music became his primary focus, he spent a brief period working in law enforcement. Eventually, life pulled him in a different direction and gave him the opportunity to turn his longtime love of guitar into something more.
Over the years, Raul made the transition from playing as a hobby to becoming a working professional musician. That journey helped shape the approachable and adaptable entertainer audiences see today—an artist who is comfortable performing an intimate acoustic set, entertaining a busy restaurant crowd or bringing in a full band for a larger celebration.
Country music may be at the heart of Raul’s sound, but it certainly is not where his musical interests end.
His performances can move naturally between country, classic rock, R&B and soul, with the occasional rap song appearing when the energy of the room calls for it. Some Valley venues have also highlighted the smooth Latin-guitar influences found in his performances, adding another layer to his already wide-ranging sound.
That versatility is one of Raul’s greatest strengths. Rather than arriving with a rigid performance that stays exactly the same from beginning to end, he pays attention to the crowd and adjusts his music to match the moment. A relaxed afternoon set may feel completely different from a lively Friday-night performance—and that is exactly the point.
In Raul’s own words, he considers himself heavily influenced by rock and roll, with an extra helping of country mixed in, while still appreciating music of every kind.
Raul has become a familiar name at live music destinations throughout Arizona. His recent and recurring appearances have included venues such as Copper Blues in Downtown Phoenix, The Way Station in Tempe, The Stillery Happy Valley, Valley Taproom in Queen Creek, Cork & Craft in Chandler, Tap Dragon in Gilbert, Brookside II in Surprise, La Ristra in Downtown Chandler and other local establishments throughout the Valley.
Whether he is playing a solo acoustic show or performing with additional musicians, Raul brings a comfortable, easygoing presence that fits naturally into Arizona’s restaurant, brewery, taproom and live entertainment scene. He has also performed at private parties and special events, offering clients the option of a solo musician or a full-band experience depending on the occasion.
His schedule reflects just how active he has become in the local music community, with performances reaching from Phoenix and Tempe to Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Surprise and other communities around the state.
Raul’s ability to move between genres is not simply about maintaining a long song list. It is about creating a shared experience.
He understands that every venue and every audience has its own personality. Some crowds want familiar country favorites. Others lean toward rock, soulful guitar or something unexpected. Raul’s willingness to follow the energy in front of him allows each performance to feel personal rather than rehearsed and predictable.
That flexibility makes him a strong fit for neighborhood venues, corporate gatherings, celebrations and private parties where the music needs to appeal to several generations and musical tastes.
At AZ Desert Country Music Association, we are proud to spotlight artists who are out there doing the work—building relationships with local venues, creating memorable experiences for audiences and helping live music remain an important part of Arizona communities.
Raul Burruel represents the hardworking spirit of our state’s live music scene. We are excited to have Raul as part of the AZDCMA country music community and look forward to seeing where his guitar takes him next.
