AZDCMA Spotlight ~ Member Artist of the Week: The Thomas James Band

This week, AZDCMA is proud to shine the spotlight on one of Arizona’s most electrifying live acts — The Thomas James Band.

With roots grounded in classic American rock storytelling and a modern desert-country edge, The Thomas James Band brings something truly special to the Arizona music scene.

Their sound is gritty, cinematic, high-energy, and unmistakably authentic — the kind of music that hits just as hard in your headphones as it does under the stage lights. Led by Thomas James, the band is powered by years of songwriting, stage experience, and undeniable chemistry.

Meet the Band

Thomas James – Lead Vocals / Guitar

At the heart of the band is Thomas James, a veteran of the rock scene and a gifted songwriter whose music blends raw storytelling with standout guitar work. Over the years, TJ has fronted bands including Time, Digger, and The Crush, with each chapter adding depth to his writing, performance style, and signature sound.

His songs carry swagger, grit, and melodies that stay with you long after the final chord rings out.

Tommy D (De Poy) – Lead Guitar

Affectionately known as Mosiphus, Tommy D brings a legendary musical background and unmistakable melodic style to the band. His journey began as a teenager in Niles, Michigan, where he played alongside future Jason Newsted.

Since then, he has sharpened his craft through an impressive lineup of bands including Diamond, Vertical Smile, Fortress, Sticky Fingers, Z, and NoBody BIG — all helping shape the soaring guitar hooks that define The Thomas James Band’s sound.

Jeremy Rodgers – Drums

Jeremy Rodgers brings both power and finesse behind the kit. Blending rock intensity with jazz-inspired precision, Jeremy’s versatility gives the band its dynamic heartbeat.

Previously performing with Sans Moi, Jeremy has also shared the stage with artists including Barton Godfrey, Jimmie George, Thano Sahnas, and Demitri Sahnas, making him a seasoned and commanding force in every live performance.

Michael Morris – Bass

Holding down the groove is Michael Morris, a seasoned bassist and founding member of Arizona’s iconic cover band Jaded Jukebox.

Michael’s versatility spans projects including Let’s Just Play, Taking Liberty, Generation Hex, and Velvet Crush. He has also stepped into the progressive world as Justin Chancellor in Aperfectool, a tribute to Tool and A Perfect Circle.

His experience and pocket-driven rhythm help give the band its rich, full sound.

Music That Hits the Road and Beyond

The band’s released EPs, Let’s Hit the Road and It Ain’t Right, capture the spirit and vibe of who they are — but it’s their live shows where the magic truly comes alive.

Expect:

  • high-energy performances
  • engaging crowd interaction
  • foot-stomping melodies
  • unforgettable hooks
  • a cinematic desert-country atmosphere

The Thomas James Band beautifully blends American rock tradition with a modern Southwest edge, creating a sound that feels right at home in Arizona.

Recent Accomplishments

The band continues to make serious waves across the state music scene, including:

  • Grand Prize Winners of the 2025 98 KUPD Playdio Battle of the Bands
  • Finalists in the KIIM Country Battle of the Bands in Tucson

These achievements are a testament to both their musicianship and the growing fan support behind them.
