AZDCMA Artist Spotlight: Scott & Sabrina

From starting over in Arizona to building a country music career, this husband-and-wife duo proves that sometimes the best chapters in life begin when you least expect them.

Some country songs are written from imagination. Others come from heartbreak, hard work, second chances and those unexpected turns life throws your way.

For Scott & Sabrina, their story has a little bit of all of that.

The Lake Havasu City-based husband-and-wife duo didn't arrive in Arizona with a grand plan to build a country music career. In fact, they were simply looking for a fresh start after leaving behind a difficult chapter of their lives in Southern Oregon.

What they found was something neither could have predicted: a new home, a growing family, a thriving music career and a community that welcomed them with open arms.

And somewhere along the way, two musicians who started out performing together became partners in just about every sense of the word.

Two Voices, Two Musical Backgrounds, One Sound

Scott & Sabrina bring together a musical combination that is as unique as the story behind their partnership.

Their sound blends modern country-rock, Americana influences and soulful harmonies, with a strong focus on original music and storytelling. Scott brings guitar and vocals, while Sabrina adds piano, powerhouse vocals and harmonies that help give the duo its signature sound.

But their individual musical journeys started in very different places.

Scott picked up the guitar at just 12 years old. With a mother who taught piano and performed in church, music was a regular part of his childhood. And while his current country influences include artists such as Luke Combs, Jon Pardi, Jake Owen, Easton Corbin and Dustin Lynch, one of his earliest musical inspirations might surprise a few country fans.

The Backstreet Boys.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Long before Scott was building a career in country music, he was learning about vocal arrangements, harmonies and how different voices work together by listening to one of the biggest boy bands of the 1990s.

Sabrina's musical roots also run deep. She began playing piano at six years old and grew up singing and performing in church. Her early musical inspiration came from powerhouse vocalists such as Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, while her mother's love for The Judds introduced her to the beauty of country harmonies.

Put those influences together, and somehow it all makes perfect sense.

Their rich male-female harmonies have drawn comparisons to groups such as Lady A, Thompson Square and Little Big Town, but Scott & Sabrina have continued to develop a sound that is distinctly their own.

Whether they're performing an intimate acoustic set or taking the stage with their full professional band, the foundation remains the same: two voices, authentic stories and music that comes from the heart.

A Musical Partnership That Became So Much More

Every great country story needs an interesting beginning, and Scott & Sabrina certainly have one.

Their introduction actually came through Sabrina's former husband, who suggested the two musicians perform together.

Sometimes life really does write better stories than Nashville.

They began playing music together in Southern Oregon, first as a duo and eventually expanding into a trio. About six months into their musical partnership, however, both found themselves navigating major changes in their personal lives.

Breakups, uncertainty and plenty of unexpected challenges left them searching for a new direction.

Rather than staying where they were, they made a decision that would change everything.

They left Oregon.

In early 2021, the two headed to Arizona, hoping to leave the chaos behind and begin again.

Scott had previously performed in Lake Havasu City with another band, giving them a few connections in the local music community. Those relationships helped open the door to their first Arizona booking.

One performance led to another. Word began to spread. More venues started calling.

Before they knew it, their fresh start was turning into a full-fledged music career.

And somewhere between the miles traveled, the songs performed and the new life they were building, their musical partnership became a marriage.

What began as two musicians finding common ground became a shared journey through music, family and life.

The Song That Tells Their Story: "Runaway"

For many songwriters, the most meaningful songs are the ones that capture a moment they never want to forget.

For Scott & Sabrina, that song is "Runaway."

And its story is about as authentic as country music gets.

The couple wrote the song while staying in a hotel during their transition from Oregon to Arizona. At the time, they had no clear picture of what their future would look like or exactly where life would take them.

They simply knew they needed a change.

What began as a song about leaving everything familiar behind eventually became something much bigger.

Arizona wasn't just another stop along the way.

It became home.

Today, when Scott & Sabrina perform "Runaway," they're sharing a piece of their own history. The lyrics represent uncertainty, courage, second chances and the unexpected blessings that can come from taking a leap of faith.

It's a reminder that sometimes the road away from something difficult can lead you directly to where you belong.

And for this duo, that road led straight to Lake Havasu City.

From an Acoustic Duo to a Five-State Music Career

What started with a few local performances quickly grew into something neither artist expected.

Scott & Sabrina have now performed across five states, appeared at more than 80 different venues and events, and taken their music to festivals, concert series, resorts, corporate gatherings and other stages throughout the region.

Their career highlights include headlining Oregon's Turtle Rock & Grass Music Festival in 2023, opening for Sam Riggs at the Fountain Hills Music Festival, and sharing a bill with Warren Garrett at the Mohave County Fair.

They've also performed at notable Arizona destinations including the Chandler Center for the Arts, The Wigwam, Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass and Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa.

Additional appearances have included the Mesa Music Festival, Gold Rush Country Music Festival and Yreka Gold Rush Days.

But some of their proudest moments haven't necessarily come from playing the biggest stages.

One of their most meaningful accomplishments has been watching their original music grow from acoustic arrangements into full-band performances.

As their career developed, Scott & Sabrina began surrounding themselves with experienced professional musicians, expanding their live performance capabilities while keeping their duo identity at the center of the music.

Their extended musical team has included guitarists Marty James and Chris Capitano; drummers Aaron Peltier, Dave Towe and Matt Barr; and bassists Ian Andrews, Kim Steele and Nick Kirby.

That flexibility allows them to deliver everything from stripped-down acoustic performances to high-energy country-rock shows backed by a full band.

And for two artists who started with little more than their voices, instruments and determination, hearing their own songs come alive with a talented group of musicians has been an especially rewarding milestone.

Taking Their Original Music to Nashville

While live performances have helped build their following, original music has always been at the heart of Scott & Sabrina's vision.

The duo has traveled to Nashville to record their music professionally, bringing songs inspired by their own lives to the recording studio.

Their original catalog includes:

  • Runaway
  • Detox
  • Without You Tonight
  • Sinner Not A Saint

For Scott & Sabrina, songwriting is about much more than creating something catchy.

Their music draws from real relationships, personal struggles, life changes, love and the experiences that have shaped them along the way.

They want listeners to connect with those stories.

It's not enough for someone to walk away from a show remembering that they heard a talented duo.

They hope audiences remember a particular lyric, a harmony that caught their attention or a song that reminded them of their own lives.

And when someone approaches them after a performance to share how deeply a song resonated, that connection means more than any applause.

Ten Kids, Two Musicians and One Very Full Life

Now, here's something that might surprise even their most loyal fans.

Scott & Sabrina have TEN children.

Yes, ten.

Their blended family includes four children from Scott, five from Sabrina and a baby girl they welcomed together in November 2025.

With six of their children now young adults, they've experienced nearly every stage of parenting while navigating the unpredictable life of independent musicians.

Between songwriting, rehearsals, recording, booking shows, traveling, managing their band and keeping up with their family's busy schedule, it's safe to say there isn't much downtime in their household.

And that's before you add in the endless behind-the-scenes responsibilities that come with operating an independent music business.

Scott & Sabrina know firsthand that building a successful career takes far more than stepping onto a stage with a microphone.

There are financial challenges, rejected opportunities, difficult decisions, late nights and plenty of moments when the road ahead isn't clear.

But they've learned to keep moving forward.

Their commitment to their music is matched by their commitment to each other, and they've continued building their career while also building a marriage and raising their family.

Ten kids. One marriage. A growing music career.

Now that's a story Nashville could do something with.

Finding Their Place in Arizona Country Music

Although their musical journey began in Oregon, Arizona is where Scott & Sabrina truly found their footing.

Lake Havasu City became their home base and the launching point for an expanding performance schedule that has taken them to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Mesa, Chandler, Kingman, Prescott and communities throughout the state.

Along the way, they've built relationships with venue owners, fellow musicians, event professionals and fans who have helped support their growth.

For the couple, those connections represent far more than business opportunities.

They represent the community that helped turn an uncertain new beginning into something extraordinary.

Arizona gave them an opportunity to start again, and they've embraced the chance to contribute to the state's growing country music scene.

Their journey reflects something we believe strongly at the Arizona Desert Country Music Association: behind every artist is a story worth telling, and behind a thriving music community are people willing to support one another.

Scott & Sabrina are a wonderful example of the independent artists who make Arizona's country music community so diverse, talented and full of possibility.

The Next Chapter Is Still Being Written

Scott & Sabrina have no plans to slow down.

They're continuing to write, record and release original music while expanding their performance opportunities throughout Arizona and beyond.

Whether audiences catch them as an acoustic duo or with their full country-rock band, their goal remains the same: make meaningful music, tell authentic stories and build genuine connections with the people listening.

They've already experienced just how quickly life can change when you're willing to take a chance.

And they know their story is still unfolding.

When asked what the title of their music story would be if it were a country song, their answer seemed perfectly fitting:

"We Ran Away and Found Home."

Although they admit another title might be equally appropriate:

"Ten Kids, Two Guitars & a Runaway."

We have to admit, we'd listen to that one, too.

From all of us at AZDCMA, we're proud to share the story of Scott & Sabrina and celebrate the passion, perseverance and original music they're bringing to Arizona's country music community.

Because sometimes the best journeys begin without a destination in mind. And sometimes, running away leads you exactly where you're meant to be.
