Garland Duane Moore was a beloved American country music singer, songwriter, and frontman whose voice and spirit helped shape the regional sound of Arizona country and roots music for decades. As the lead singer and one of the founding members of the influential band Mogollon, Duane’s rich vocals, heartfelt performances, and genuine connection with fans made him a treasured figure in the Southwest music community.
Born and raised in Arizona, Duane teamed up with lifelong friend George Brunson in 1979 to form Mogollon, a band that blended country, Southern rock, and roots influences into a distinctive, soulful sound. From small mountain towns like Overgaard–Heber to stages across the U.S. and as far as Germany, Duane’s voice led Mogollon through a remarkable touring career. The band’s music — part country, part Southern rock, and uniquely “Mogollon” — captured listeners with its authenticity, energy, and musical integrity.
Over the years Mogollon released multiple albums and became known for original songs such as “Ride High Honey,” co-written by Duane and Brunson, and for their dynamic live performances that built a loyal fan base throughout Arizona and beyond. Duane’s songwriting and stage presence were central to the group’s identity, helping the band maintain relevance and vitality across three decades.
Duane unexpectedly passed away in April 2022, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians and fans alike — with many gathering in Mesa and throughout Arizona to honor his legacy through the music he loved.
In 2025, Duane Moore was posthumously honored with the AZDCMA Legacy Award at the Arizona Desert Country Music Awards — a special presentation recognizing his lifetime of influence, contribution to country music in the region, and the deep respect he earned within the community.
